Belt Pulley Chain

BELT DRIVE

A belt is a flexible material that we used to link two or more rotating shaft, most often parallel.

Belts may be used as a source of motion, to transmit power efficiently, or to track relative

movement. Belts are looped over pulley and may have a twist between the pulleys, and the

shafts need not be parallel.

In a two pulley system, the belt can either drive the pulleys normally in one direction (the same if

on parallel shafts), or the belt may be crossed, so that the direction of the driven shaft is

reversed (the opposite direction to the driver if on parallel shafts).

V belt drive are normally using friction to as a turning force. This belt shape is vee and fits to

pulley.

How to read V belts height and width:

V-belts may be made from:

  • Homogeneously rubber or polymer throughout,

  • Or there may be fibers embedded in the rubber or polymer for strength and reinforcement.

  • The fibers may be of textile materials such as cotton, polyamide (such as Nylon) or

  • Polyester or, for greatest strength, of steel or aramid (such as Twaron or Kevlar).

 Optimal speed range of vee belts is  about 1,000 – 7,000 ft/min (300–2,130 m/min).

Belts installation:

1. Check pulleys for rust, oil or anything that can damage the pulleys.

2. Inspect pulleys for wear. Replace if necessary.

3. Check for proper alignment.

4. Ensure all belts are the same. Do not mix belt brands. Do not mix belt constructions. 5. Place belts on the drive. Never force the belts into the pulley using a lever. Doing so can cause irreversible cord damage and/or fabric tearing. Always move the driver unit forward so the belts can be slipped into the pulley grooves without damage to the belts.

5.Place belts on the drive. Never force the belts into the pulley using a lever.

 6. Center distance allowances for belt installation and take-up. The center distance should be determined from a standard pitch length and designed so that the centers can be moved closer together and farther apart to allow for installation and tensioning.

PULLEYS

"A toothed belt is a flexible belt with teeth in inner surface. It is designed to run over matching toothed pulleys or sprocket. Toothed belts are used in a wide array of in mechanical devices, where high-power transmission is needed."

Their uses is :

  • sed to drive the camshafts within an automobile or motorcycle engine.

  • deliver more power than a friction-drive belt, they are used for high-power transmissions.

Microlight aircraft driven by high-speed two-stroke engines such as the Rotax 532 use toothed belt reduction drives to allow the use of a quieter and more efficient slower-speed propeller

CHAIN

Chains are used for:

  • Change direction of control runs in system where force is needed

  • This chains in aircraft use are for elevator control

  • Provide a flexible connection for use in control system and other operating system

  • Positive tension is required

  • Change direction of control

  • Attachment to fit them conveyor use

ROLLER CHAIN

Chains provide strong, flexible and positive connections and are generally used wherever it becomes

necessary to change the direction of control runs in systems where considerable force is exerted, e.g.

aileron and elevator controls. The change of direction is achieved by the use of chain wheels or pulleys.

Chains may be found in, control column installations, aileron controls and elevator controls and in trim

control systems.

Chains may be used solely in control runs or in conjunction with cable assemblies. In either case, the

incorrect assembly of the chains should be rendered impossible by the use of non-reversible chains in

conjunction with the appropriate types of wheels, guards and connectors

A SIMPLE ROLLER CHAIN CONSIST OF:

  • OUTER AND INNER PLATE

  • ROLLER

  • BEARING PLATES

  • BUSHES

There are three principle in roller chain which is:

  • Pitch

  • Width between inner plates

  • Roller diameter

Detachable chain

Steel detachable are made from special hot rolled strip steel and is heat-treated to assure high strength and long wear life. It is designed for moderate load and easy to install and repair.

Cast roller chain

Cast roller chain are constructed , wholly or partly, of cast metal parts and are available in various styles of shape.

Pintle chains

Pintle chains is composed of hollow cored cylinders cast of forged intergraly with two offset side

bars and each link identical.

The links are joined by pins inserted in boles in the ends of the side bars and through the

Cored holes in the adjacent links. Lugs prevent turning of the pins in the side bars and thus to ensure

articulation of the chain between the pin and the cored cylinder.

Their open barrel are design to eliminates material build up in the root of sprockets, assuring

smooth operation, uniform link wear and greater resist to fatique.
